OAB/AC speaks out and says it is following the investigation into a lawyer arrested with drugs in Acre

The Brazilian Bar Association – Acre Section (OAB/AC) commented this Monday (10) on the case of a lawyer detained at the Francisco de Oliveira Conde Penitentiary Complex, in Rio Branco, on suspicion of trying to enter the unit with drugs.

In a note, the entity informed that it has been following the case since the moment of the incident, with the support of the Defense, Assistance and Prerogatives Commission, which was on site shortly after the incident. The OAB highlighted that all assistance and monitoring measures were guaranteed to the professional, with due respect for the legal rights and prerogatives of the legal profession.

The institution highlighted that monitoring follows the principles set out in the Law Statute (Law 8,906/94), which guides the Order to ensure the dignity and integrity of professional practice, avoiding any type of undue exposure or sensationalist treatment.

According to information from the Acre Penitentiary Administration Institute (Iapen), the lawyer was allegedly caught with packages of marijuana hidden in her bag and clothes during a routine inspection carried out by Criminal Police agents. The material was seized and the incident recorded.

In a statement, the OAB-AC stated that the case is being handled with “caution and responsibility”, reinforcing the entity’s commitment to due legal process and transparency of information. The Order also informed that it will monitor the progress of the investigations until the facts are completely elucidated, adopting the necessary measures if irregularities are confirmed.

The professional remains under investigation and could face criminal charges, in addition to facing possible internal disciplinary proceedings, as provided for in the Law Firm Statute. In situations like this, the law provides for sanctions that may include suspension or even revocation of professional registration, depending on the outcome of the case.

Despite the seriousness of the accusation, the OAB reinforced that any investigation must take place calmly, without early judgments, guaranteeing respect for fundamental rights.
