Toronto Raptors winger Brandon Ingram was fined US$25,000 by the NBA after throwing a bottle of water on the ground in a moment of frustration during the 130-120 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, last Saturday (8).
The decision was announced this Monday by James Jones, director of operations. The episode occurred in the third quarter, after Ingram committed a foul with an additional play on Trendon Watford, which extended the 76ers’ lead to four points.
When he was substituted with 6:25 on the clock, he received a technical foul for delaying the game by leaving the court.
Sitting on the edge of the bench, Ingram threw the bottle, which bounced on the floor, hit an attendant’s arm and even wet people nearby, including a cameraman and companion Scottie Barnes. The game had to be stopped again so the court could be cleaned.
The winger returned after one possession and finished the game with 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists in 37 minutes.
Averaging 21 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4 assists this season, Ingram was acquired by the Raptors in February, but sat out the rest of the last campaign to recover from an ankle injury. Before that, he played 305 games for the New Orleans Pelicans, where he was an All-Star and named Most Improved Player in 2019–20.
