Trumpeter Thomas Gansch: An anti-purist turns 50 and picks roses

Not all men who are approaching their 50th birthday feel like celebrating: their youth is gone, they’re halfway through their lives, and the hair on their head is on the decline. However, Thomas Gansch sees it positively: “I’m really happy that I’m turning 50 now and not 30. It was a completely different kind of stress back then!” says the virtuoso trumpet all-rounder. Of course: He has also filled this year’s anniversary year with all sorts of projects – from the “Brass Boat”, with which “Captain” Gansch chugged across the Rhine in the summer, to a tour with world stars of jazz these days. But between all the appointments, the man from St. Pölten always allows himself some soothing breaks.
