University of Algarve provides consultations with family doctors

General practitioner four hours a week is just one of the components of the project, which received 40 thousand euros within the scope of UAlg’s participatory budget.

At the request of students, the University of Algarve (UAlg) created family medicine consultations, aimed mainly at students who are far from home.

Taking a master’s degree in Psychology, born in Curitiba, Brazil, and more than 8,000 kilometers from home, Maria Eduarda is an example of how for a displaced student the proposal “More Health: where it’s good to live” was one of the most interesting among the projects that competed for the university’s participatory budget.

The general practitioner four hours a week is just one component of the “Mais Saúde” project, which received 40 thousand euros as part of the participatory budget, which challenges the academic community to decide which priorities should be supported.

In this case, the budget also includes gynecology consultations and the reinforcement of clinical psychology, a specialty that before Covid saw around 500 consultations per year and which has now soared to 2,000.

The gynecology consultation had already existed in , but was interrupted since the troika. General medicine was also available until the pandemic. With the funds from the participatory budget, they have financing for another 11 months
