The president of the Chamber of Deputies, , and the rapporteur of , , said, this Tuesday (11), that there is no interest in taking away the powers of the and classified the information as misleading. “Some concerns have been raised and we will not allow any discussion to put our country’s sovereignty at risk. There was never any intention to remove the Federal Police from combating organized crime,” said Motta, at a press conference. “What is the responsibility of the Federal Police is preserved”, guaranteed Derrite, reinforcing that the intention to remove the power of the Federal Police is a “wrong narrative”.

“When I appointed Derrite to report on the project on criminal factions, it was so that he could do technical work, not allowing it to be used as a political platform,” said Motta, adding that the rapporteur has been in dialogue with the States and his priority is to bring “our concerns to the construction of a project that delivers to the country a result and solution for public security in Brazil”.

The position comes after the change in the anti-faction project, presented by deputy Guilherme Derrite, which according to the PF, “threatens to compromise the initial objective of the proposal, which is to strengthen the fight against crime and improve the fight against criminal organizations. The proposed changes put the public interest at risk, by reducing the Federal Police’s ability to act autonomously and efficiently”, highlighted the PF.
