Rose diseases in the garden. What attacks them most often?
Roses, although beautiful, are unfortunately susceptible to a number of diseases that can significantly weaken the plant and spoil its appearance. The most common include fungal diseases such as rose black spot, rose powdery mildew, rose rust, and gray mold. And it is after heavy rains in recent days that black spot on roses is taking its toll in Polish gardens. Fortunately, it is one of the easiest fungal diseases to recognize. How can you tell if it has attacked the roses in your garden?
Black spot on garden roses. How to recognize it?
The first telltale symptom is dark spots on the leaves. They appear as small, round or irregular spots ranging in color from dark brown to almost black, which gradually enlarge, often merging together to form larger, irregular clusters. There is often a clear, intense yellow border around each dark spot. Infected leaves, especially those with numerous spots and a spreading yellow border, quickly turn yellow throughout. They then fall prematurely. In more advanced cases or on particularly sensitive varieties, dark, slightly concave spots may also appear on young shoots.
Spraying against black spot on roses. What to prepare?
You can use garlic to treat black spot on roses. Well, garlic has strong antiseptic and fungicidal properties thanks to the content of sulfur compounds. How to prepare it? Crush 6 cloves of garlic and pour 1 liter of boiling water over them. Leave the mixture for 24 hours, and then strain the solution through cheesecloth or a fine strainer to remove any remaining garlic. Add a few drops of soap and spray your roses. Repeat the treatment every 7 days and after each rain.
