The National Directory of , in Brasília, a change that expands the possibility of new members voting in the PED (Direct Election Process) that will define the successor in national command of the party.
The party’s statute provides that the minimum period of party membership to vote or be voted for in the PED is one year. At Saturday’s meeting, which says that members with membership requests registered in the system until February 28, 2025 will be able to vote and be voted.
The change allows the affiliation of new party members in the midst of a dispute that is already fierce for the PT command. On the one hand, Gleisi supports the name of the government leader in the Chamber, José Guimarães (CE). Names more aligned with the minister (Finance), supported by the president himself (PT).
The proposal, validated by two thirds of the National Directory, was presented by the majority current CNB (Construindo um Novo Brasil). According to PT members, the idea was to allow people who approached the party in this last electoral process to vote for the PED. In their opinion, joining these people and not giving them the right to vote would be discouraging. Another member of the PT says that the change helps the “internal dispute to heat up more”.
