Christmas markets once again attract thousands of visitors who want to enjoy the magic of lights, hot drinks and the smell of traditional specialties. However, in all the festive bustle, few people realize that behind the stalls there is also a less romantic side, namely the issue of hygiene and price. The web shed light on these two things at the Christmas markets in Prague.
Thousands of tourists come to the Czech capital every year just for the Christmas markets. However, unlike previous years, this year’s events are taking place at a time when the jaundice epidemic is spreading in Prague and the number of infections is still increasing. The website iDnes.cz mapped the hygienic conditions at six Christmas markets and also focused on prices.
Markets at OC Palladium open at 10:00 a.m. At the hot dog stand, according to the website, the server wore gloves, but she used them for everything. They were supposed to chow down rolls with them and also accept cash from people. A steamer here costs 7.45 euros, and you pay 2.90 euros for a cola drink. Two dozen mulled wine costs 3.80 euros, mead 5.40 euros and punch 4.15 euros.
The second market is laid out in the direction of Senovážna street. According to the iDnes.cz website, these markets are somewhat cheaper. Here you can get two dozen Christmas punches for 3.30 euros and two dozen meads for 2.50 euros. However, a sausage in a bun costs 7.45 euros. Operators also wear one glove for each activity, according to the portal.
There were only six stalls at the markets on Jiřího z Poděbrady square, but only four were in operation at that time. You can buy mulled wine here for 3.50 euros. You pay at Miera Square a potato pancake costs 3.70 euros and a large sausage costs 4.75 euros. According to the website, they are served as in previous cases. They also offer two bottles of mulled wine here for 3.30 euros, mead and punch for 2.50 euros.
On Wenceslas Square are the second largest markets in Prague. You pay 3.30 euros for 250 milliliters of beer and for the same price you can also buy two cases of mulled wine. You can enjoy the langoustine for 7.45 euros and you choose the potato pancake by weight, 3.30 euros for 100 grams. Vendors, according to the website, again use identical gloves to prepare food and accept cash.
The markets are the largest in the Old Town Square, and therefore the most people live here. Langoš here costs up to 11.60 euros. With hygienic conditions, it is the same here as everywhere else, writes the Czech website. However, the positive is that there is disinfection on the side of all stands, so it is the responsibility of all visitors to take care of their own health.
