Chivas Guadalajara announced that Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, the top scorer in the history of the Mexican national team, is leaving the club. The team released a statement on their social media this Thursday (11).

“Club Deportivo Guadalajara announces that Javier Hernández Balcázar has completed his second spell as a Chivas player. The bond between ‘Chicharito’ and the club he loves, the one that formed him and propelled him to become a legend of Mexican football, will last forever,” the post stated.

With , the striker won the Liga MX titles in 2006 and 2010, being top scorer in the second, before embarking on a career in Europe, at clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham.

He arrived at Chivas in January 2024. During this period, he played 41 matches, but scored just four goals, in a second spell marked by many injuries.

At 37 years old, the Mexican player’s future is uncertain, with the local press considering Chicharito’s retirement.
