The horror case of a teenager († 18): He disappeared one day, his remains were found years later in a chimney!

Almost twenty years ago, a teenager named Joshua Maddux († 18) disappeared after going for a walk. Although his parents alerted the police, they could not find him. , despite the loved ones clinging to hope, a few years later they learned the crushing truth.

  • Teenager Joshua Maddux disappeared in 2008.
  • His remains were found in a chimney a few years later.
  • According to the police, his death was caused by hypothermia and no one else was at fault.
  • There are opinions that suggest it may not have been an accident.

In May 2008, Joshua left his home in the American city of Woodland Park for a short walk. At first, the parents did not suspect that anything serious had happened, but when their son did not return, they decided to notify the police. “I got up one morning and he was there, then he never came home. We thought he was with friends, but no one saw him” said the teenager’s father.

Despite efforts and a long-term investigation, the police were unable to find out what happened to the young man. As the years passed, the family still held onto the hope that he had decided to leave the city and start a new life. Meanwhile, his father searched homeless shelters and campsites in the area, hoping to find his missing son alive.

Tragically, seven years later in 2015, workers discovered something terrifying. While demolishing a nearby cottage, they smelled a foul smell, and when they moved a large piece of furniture that was blocking the fireplace, they found Joshua’s neatly folded clothes at the bottom. They soon discovered that the mummified remains of a teenager were in the chimney. Investigators identified his body based on dental records and the missing tip of his right index finger, which he lost as a child in a bicycle accident.

The position of the remains indicated that he entered the chimney head first. Therefore, the police assumed that he was trying to get into the locked property. “He died there all by himself. It’s really, really disturbing,” said local shop owner Renae Trichell.

However, some people believe that other circumstances may have caused the teenager’s death. There should have been a metal covering on top of the chimney, which, according to them, should exclude the possibility that it could get inside from above. Others pointed out the curious detail that Joshua was only wearing a thermal shirt while the rest of his clothes were folded up in the lodge.

In the end, these discrepancies did not convince the police and they closed the case as an accident without the fault of others. After a thorough investigation, including an autopsy, officers concluded that death was caused by hypothermia and prolonged exposure to adverse conditions.

The young man’s sister Kate published an emotional statement after the discovery of his remains. “This is certainly not the outcome that the Maddux family and Joshua’s many friends and loved ones were hoping for. But we are extremely grateful that we can finally give him the dignified farewell he deserves and lay him to rest,” she wrote.
