Trump signs order to limit state-level AI regulation

The President of the USA, Donald Trump, signed this Thursday, 11, an executive order to end the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) by states, considered excessive by the Republican, and create a minimally onerous national standard.

“To win, America’s AI companies must be free to innovate without burdensome regulations,” the White House statement says, “but excessive regulation by states impedes this imperative.”

According to the order, state-by-state regulation creates a mosaic of 50 different regulatory regimes that makes compliance more challenging, especially for startups, and state laws are increasingly responsible for requiring entities to incorporate “ideological bias within models.”

Trump said the move was necessary to strengthen emerging technology and combat state regulations that the industry fears will hinder its growth.
