This is especially true of preservative contentsuch as nitrites – their excessive consumption may contribute to the formation of carcinogenic compounds.

They are a great alternative to store-bought meats those prepared at home. We then have full control over their composition, and they are usually much tastier than those from the supermarket. Moreover, we will certainly surprise our guests by offering them something to eat homemade ham.

Making homemade ham for Christmas it’s not complicated. However, it is crucial to purchase good quality meat – it is worth purchasing this product from a trusted butcher. What else will we need to prepare our own cold meat? Here’s the full list of essentials ingredients:

  • 2 kg of pork ham;
  • 1 tablespoon of salt;
  • 1 tablespoon of pepper;
  • 2 teaspoons of dried sweet pepper;
  • 2 teaspoons of rosemary;
  • 1 teaspoon of oregano;
  • 1 teaspoon of thyme;
  • 1 teaspoon of granulated garlic;
  • 2 tablespoons of honey;
  • 3 tablespoons of mustard;
  • 2.5 tablespoons of oil;
  • 200 ml of water.

Preparation method:

  1. First, let’s start with the marinade. Place the oil, honey and mustard in a bowl and mix everything thoroughly. In a separate bowl, combine the spices with salt and pepper.
  2. Dry the piece of ham with a paper towel and then thoroughly cover it with the marinade. Then rub the meat with the spice mixture.
  3. Place the ham in an ovenproof dish, pour water inside, cover it, and then put it in the oven preheated to 180 degrees Celsius. Bake the meat for about 2 hours. We can remove the lid for the last 15-20 minutes to allow the ham to brown nicely.

So prepared ham it will definitely work for holiday table. We can cut it into slices and serve it as a cold cut or serve it warm as a dinner dish. In both cases, it will surely charm many hungry people.
