Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) spoke on the phone with the President of the European Council António Costa on Friday and discussed with him the topic of assistance with military expenses for Ukraine. Fico stands by the fact that he will not support anything related to them. He informed about it on the social network.
“I told A. Costa that I will not support anything, even if we were to sit in Brussels until the new year, which would lead to the support of Ukraine’s military expenditures. As Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, I am ready to support Ukraine in its restoration on the basis of bilateral negotiations between the Slovak and Ukrainian governments, but I reject senseless killings,” said the Prime Minister.
He wrote the same opinion on this topic in the letter he sent to the President of the European Council and all the prime ministers of the EU member states. On Thursday (11/12), in the plenary session of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic during the Question Hour, Fico assessed that the conflict in Ukraine has no military solution, while the EU’s strategy for this conflict is incorrect and ineffective. According to him, the continuation of the war is senseless killing without strengthening the position of Ukraine in the case of peace negotiations. Therefore, it supports the peace initiatives and efforts to end this war by US President Donald Trump.
