During a visit to Washington, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated that he would have liked to have given a gift to his US counterpart, Donald Trump, but he forgot. The PT member’s idea was to take a photo of the American alongside former Corinthians presidents Vicente and Marlene Matheus to the White House, taken in the 1980s.
In an interview with journalists after the three-hour meeting of heads of state, Lula stated that Trump often repeats that he really likes Brazil. “I think it’s possible he really likes it, he said he has a lot of friends in Brazil.”
“I took a photo of him with Vicente Mateus and Marlene Matheus when he was president of Corinthians, in a casino I think it was his [Trump]but I forgot to bring it,” said the Brazilian president – who is a Corinthian fan.
In a post on the former Blog do Alfinete – transcribed on the website Meu Timão –, Marlene Matheus reportedly stated, in 2017, that the meeting with Trump took place when the player Rivelino played an indoor soccer tournament in Atlantic City. She reported that the Republican was very nice to the couple.
The top hats met with Trump in a casino that belonged to the American and where the championship was taking place. “He even wore a Corinthians shirt that we gave him,” she told the blog.
