The Spanish Royal Family released traditional Christmas messages, but it was the postcard from King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía, starring the family’s five dogs, that caught the most attention.
The Spanish Royal Family released the traditional Christmas message this Friday and although they released a beautiful family portrait, there was another one, with hairier protagonists, that was more successful.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain chose a family photograph in which they appeared with their daughters Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía, taken in October in the Asturian city of Valdesoto, to wish “Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year 2026”.
Next to the image, the signatures of the four members of the Royal Family, along with the handwritten message: “With all our affection and our best wishes.”
But despite the beautiful family portrait, it was the photograph chosen by King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía, of the family’s five dogs, that ended up stealing the show, enchanting the Spanish and breaking with tradition.
In previous years, the King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía accustomed the Spanish to the image of a work of art related to the birth of Jesus to illustrate their Christmas message. This year, they surprised.
The stars of the Christmas card from King Felipe VI’s parents are five dogs lined up posing next to the Christmas tree, in a photograph taken at Queen Sofia’s residence, in the Zarzuela Palace.
The image displays the two black cocker spaniels, two white miniature schnauzers and the little peekapoo. This is the first time that the image of the big dogs has been released to the public and, of course, it has delighted those who love these little creatures.
