More than 180 foreigners illegally crossed the Polish-Belarusian border through an underground tunnel on Friday night. The PAP agency was informed about this by the Polish Border Guard (SG) and announced that its members detained more than 130 people, writes TASR.

  • More than 180 foreigners illegally crossed the Polish-Belarusian border.
  • The underground tunnel was discovered near the village of Narewka on Thursday.
  • They detained foreigners, mainly Afghans and Pakistanis, across the border.
  • The systems intercepted migrants, detained more than 130 persons.
  • The tunnel was the fourth incident discovered on this border.

According to SG spokesman Andrzej Juzkiaw, the underground passage was discovered on Thursday near the village of Narewka in eastern Poland. It was several dozen meters long and 1.5 meters high.

Underground tunnel discovered

“Its entrance, which was hidden in the forest, was located about 50 meters from the Belarusian border and the exit was located ten meters from the barrier on the Polish side,” added Juzwiak, referring to the steel fence equipped with extensive security systems, which Poland built as part of Warsaw’s efforts to ease the long-running migration crisis on the border with Belarus.

The spokesman added that electronic systems allowed officers to find out how many people crossed the Polish border and detain most of them. He added that the security forces are still looking for the remaining foreigners.

Detained foreigners

“Among the detained foreigners, there were mostly Afghans and Pakistanis, the rest were holders of Indian, Nepalese and Bangladeshi passports,” Juzwiak said.

In addition to the foreigners, the border guards also detained two drivers who came to the border area to transport these people to Western Europe.

This is already the fourth case when such a tunnel was discovered under the land border between Belarus and Poland. This is also the second case near Narewka.
