Federal Court gives deadline for Aneel to comment on Enel in SP

The Federal Court determined this Friday (19) that the provide clarification, within five days, about the blackout in São Paulo, which occurred on December 10th, which left millions of residents in the dark for several days. At the peak time, 2.2 million properties were affected.

According to City Hall, the excessive delay in normalizing the service for millions of São Paulo residents justifies an urgent definition of the company’s continuity in the capital. In the request to Aneel, it is requested that the National Agency anticipate conclusions on the possible expiry or early extension of the concession contract.

According to City Hall, Aneel had postponed the final assessment on Enel until March 2026, under the justification of testing the electricity network during the rainy season. However, the municipal administration argues that recent failures make it “unreasonable” to wait for this period and requests an immediate definition of the termination of the contract.

“The mutually agreed conclusion is that the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) will be urged by the Ministry of Mines and Energy to begin the expiry process.
