Jean-Louis Gasset was 72 years old and represented Montpellier almost his entire football career and on three occasions as a coach.
French coach Jean-Louis Gasset died this Friday, aged 72, reported Montpellier, the club he represented during his football career and which he also coached on three occasions.
“Montpellier learned today, with immense sadness, of the passing of Jean-Louis Gasset. Today, the club lost one of its iconic figures. Our sadness is enormous as we remember his smile, his inimitable voice and his wit”, wrote the Gallic emblem on his social networks.
Jean-Louis was the son of Bernard Gasset, one of the founders of Montpellier, a club he coached at three timesthe last of which took place between October 2024 and April 2025, training that in its mourning also highlighted Jean-Louis Gasset’s “professionalism, kindness and desire to transmit knowledge”.
Gasset was coach Laurent Blanc’s trusted man for around a decadestarting at Bordeaux in 2009, with which he was national champion, won the League Cup and the Super Cup, in addition to his time at Paris Saint-Germain, with three championships, three League Cups, two Cups and three French Super Cups.
The duo also led the France team together between 2010 and 2012.
