The Government of São Paulo ended the year with the removal of 800 families and traders from , in the central region of the capital. The last five changes of 2025 were made last Tuesday (30), reaching 802.
According to management’s assessment (), there are still around 100 removals to complete the plan.
The removal of the favela was the reason for clashes between the Tarcísio and Lula (PT) governments throughout the year — since the Union owns the land. With the removal, the Union undertakes to transfer the area to the state for the construction of a park and a train station.
From , families can choose properties worth up to R$250,000 anywhere in the state of São Paulo. The cost is shared between the federal (which bears R$180,000) and state governments (responsible for the other R$70,000).
