WASHINGTON, Jan 2 (Reuters) – The U.S. Department of Justice said on Friday it thwarted a North Carolina man’s alleged plan to carry out an Islamic State-inspired attack using knives and hammers on New Year’s Eve.
Christan Sturdivant, 18, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, was charged with providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization, according to a statement from the Department of Justice.
Sturdivant has not yet commented on the accusations.

FBI agents searching Sturdivant’s home found a handwritten document titled ‘2026 New Year’s Eve Attack’ that allegedly discussed plans to stab up to 20 victims and attack officers who responded, according to the statement.
