After visiting Bolsonaro, Tarcísio reiterates support for Flávio and confirms re-election

The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) reiterated his support for the candidacy of senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) for the Presidency in this year’s elections. The statement came after visiting former president Jair Bolsonaro, in Brasília.

“We’ve been talking about this since 2023, that my interest is to stay in São Paulo. There’s no controversy whatsoever, I have a line of coherence, I said back there that I have a commitment to the state,” he said. “We were concerned about legacy. Our project has always been São Paulo”, he reinforced.

When asked by journalists about Flávio’s candidacy, Tarcísio once again emphasized his support for the senator. “Of course, without a doubt, as I have constantly stated,” he said.

Tarcísio also criticized the direction “where Brazil is heading” in the midst of a ‘fiscal and moral crisis’. “We have to provide a response and, therefore, we need an alternative and we will provide this alternative as a team. I am part of this team, we are involved in this from the vision that the president himself [Jair Bolsonaro] has”, he concluded.

Tarcísio’s visit to Bolsonaro comes after the cancellation of the first meeting, last week, when a statement by Flávio about the content of the conversation with the former president about ‘explicit support’ for his candidacy generated discomfort among parliamentarians.

At the time, Flávio even said that Jair Bolsonaro would tell Tarcísio that his priority should be re-election in São Paulo, and that a presidential candidacy would be “ruled out”. Hours after the declaration, the governor canceled the visit, under the justification of formal commitments in the state.
