Donald Trump has ordered the immediate reopening of the airspace over Venezuela

After negotiating with interim president Delcy Rodríguez, he ordered the transport department and the military to resume flights by the end of the day.

US President Donald Trump on Thursday ordered the reopening of commercial airspace over Venezuela by the end of the day. TASR informs about it based on AP and AFP reports.

Trump said at a cabinet meeting that he had spoken with Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, and informed her of the “opening of all commercial airspace over Venezuela.” He added that he had instructed Transport Minister Sean Duffy and “others involved, including the military” to do so by the end of Thursday.

Re-opening of airspace

“American citizens will soon be able to travel to Venezuela and they will be safe there,” declared the head of the White House. The United States closed Venezuelan airspace to commercial flights after a January 3 military operation that captured President Nicolás Maduro in Caracas and brought him to trial in New York.

The AP agency recalls that the Trump administration notified Congress this week of its plans to reopen its closed embassy in Caracas.
