Moraes denies visits by Valdemar and Magno Malta to Bolsonaro

O Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes denied the defense request of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to authorize the visit of the president of the Liberal Party, Valdemar Costa Neto, and senator Magno Malta (PL-ES) to Papudinha, in Brasília. The decision is this Thursday, 29.

Moraes stated that the authorization of contact between those being investigated and those convicted in related procedures presents a “manifest risk to the investigation” and cited the previous attempt by Magno Malta to enter the prison unit without authorization, in addition to the fact that Valdemar Costa Neto is being investigated for the same crimes attributed to the former president.

Despite denying requests for visits from Magno Malta and the PL president, the minister authorized other visits to the former president. On February 7, Jair Bolsonaro will be able to receive federal deputy Cabo Gilberto Silva (PL-PB), from 8 am to 10 am, and federal deputy Hélio Lopes (PL-RJ), from 11 am to 1 pm.

On February 14th, visits by Luiz Antonio Nabhan Garcia are authorized, from 8am to 10am, and Senator Wilder Morais (PL-GO), from 11am to 1pm.

Walk

In addition to denying part of the visit requests, Moraes authorized the carrying out of walks controlled by the former president, in locations previously defined by the administration of the Military Police Custody Center (NCPM), preferably on the football field or on the unit’s asphalt track. The activity must take place under permanent escort and without contact with other inmates, in compliance with medical recommendations.

The minister also authorized the exceptional change of one of the visiting days to Saturdays, maintaining Wednesdays, with the aim of reducing internal circulation and reinforcing the site’s security. Visits remain limited to two visitors at a time, at times previously established by the prison administration.

In the same decision, Moraes approved the expansion of religious assistance to the former president, allowing the work of Father Paulo M. Silva, who will add to the services already provided by a bishop and an evangelical pastor. Religious activities must take place individually, once a week, lasting up to one hour.
