The temporary truce would cover Kiev and several Ukrainian cities. But Russia has already struck 15 targets in Ukraine.
Donald Trump stated on Thursday that he requested “personally” to Vladimir Putin to cease airstrikes against Kiev and other Ukrainian citiesover a period of one week.
Trump added that the Russian President agreed to the proposal: “I personally asked President Putin not to fire on Kiev and several cities for a week, and he agreed in doing so.”
“It was really good. A lot of people told me, ‘Don’t waste the call, you’re not going to get that [que Putin aceite]. And he accepted”, commented the US president.
Donald Trump stated that he made the request to Moscow due to weather conditions in Ukraine, a country facing power cuts due to Russian air strikes that have been hitting electricity and gas distribution infrastructures.
According to the Ukrainian Meteorological Center, between next Sunday and Tuesday, “intense cold” is expected.
Night temperatures are expected to drop to -27° centigrade and in some areas to -30° centigrade.
Russia attacks
Washington did not provide further details on the terms of the alleged deal.
The Kremlin did not comment on the matter in the following hours. And there has been Russian attacks.
Russia launched a missile and 111 drones against Ukraine overnight, the Ukrainian Air Force said.
The Kiev Air Force stated that Russia fired an Iskander-M ballistic missile, in addition to the launch of 111 unmanned aerial devices (drones).
Russia’s night attacks targeted 15 locationswith the Ukrainian Air Force shooting down 80 drones.
