“Since yesterday [quinta-feira] that we have a support center located in the Pousos pavilion, where we have already collected some food goods for people who were unable to go to supermarkets that are still open or who need some help in that regard”, said Luís Lopes.

In the same location, the “distribution of tarpaulins e plastics so that people can go and collect and cover the roofs that they are unable to repair now”, he said, asking people who want to support with goods to go to that pavilion.

“We have our teams there who will receive them and who will then accommodate things”, said the councilor.

The municipality also announced that in the City Council One-Stop Service Desk There will be, from 10:00, a social action and teleconsultation service.

The radio adds that donations can also be delivered to the Caritas Diocesan of Leiria. Precisely Cáritas Portuguesa activated one to support more delicate emergency situations.

Clean Leiria

The Leiria Chamber launches the campaign today “Clean Leiria”, the first volunteer action to clean the district capital, an initiative that takes place on Saturday, the president of that municipality seriously affected by the bad weather told the Lusa agency.

“After the state of the city of Leiria, with many felling of trees and broken tiles, the city already has an important part of the large trees removed. However, it is necessary to create conditions so that our city, as quickly as possible, returns to being a clean city”, stated Gonçalo Lopes.

According to Gonçalo Lopes, the volunteering action takes place in Saturday, from 10:00, next to the Municipal Stadium, “with the aim of cleaning the stadium, cleaning the Polis route, some areas of the city center”.

In addition to the human and solidarity dimension, the “Limpar Leiria” campaign aims to create “a fundamental union for the coming months”, in which the municipality will need “the people of Leiria and the Portuguese” to rebuild the city, said the mayor.

“AND of the first volunteering actions that we will launch, since we have had many requests of people wanting to help us”, he declared, asking volunteers to take gloves, shovels, brooms and other tools, because the municipality does not have the distribution capacity.

On site, “a group of volunteers will coordinate this work, together with Ecoambiente, the company that collects the waste”, he explained.

The duration of the activity, for which the municipality calls for participation, takes place in the morning.
