Holding record for titles in ‘majors’ and also at Melbourne Park (10), ‘Djoko’, aged 38, contradicted the favoritism of the world number two, prevailing with scores of 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and 6-4, in four hours and nine minutes.
On Sunday, the Serbian, ranked fourth in the ATP hierarchy, will play his 38th final in Grand Slam tournaments against Carlos Alcaraz, the Spaniard who beat German Alexander Zverev in the longest semifinal in the tournament’s history, which lasted five hours and 27 minutes.
