A passenger on one of the high-speed trains that collided twelve days ago near the city of Adamuz in Andalusia, she succumbed to her injuries in the hospital on Friday. The number of victims of the tragic accident thus rose to 46writes TASR according to reports from the DPA and AFP agencies.
A woman (42) from the city of La Palma del Condado has been hospitalized in the hospital’s intensive care unit since the accident in Córdoba, wrote the Spanish public broadcaster RTVE. Shortly before her death, the authorities announced that 17 people still needed intensive care at the hospital.
More than 150 people were injured in the train collision on January 18. Experts assume that the cause of the accident could be a damaged joint on the rails. Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlask ruled out sabotage. Vthe investigators also ruled out the fault of the train drivers, one of whom died.
King Philip VI of Spain and Queen Letizia on Thursday joined hundreds of mourners at a memorial mass for the victims in the city of Huelva, which was the terminus of one of the trains.
