The senator (-RJ) denied, late Wednesday night (24), having humiliated the former first lady (PL). She had stated, in , that she was disrespected and mistreated by her eldest stepson.
“I have been married for 16 years, father of two wonderful daughters and I have never disrespected, mistreated or humiliated a woman in my life. I would never do it to my own father’s wife”, said the senator in a note published on social media. “I am 45 years old, 24 years in public life and I am recognized for my balance, education and respect for everyone, even my political opponents.”
Flávio said that at no time. “If I did at any point, once again, I apologize.”
The senator stated that he respects the former first lady for her work in the PL, for her care for her father, the former president, and for what she represents for Brazil.
“Our whole family is going through a very difficult time. And I understand Michelle’s anguish seeing my father, every day, suffering from such injustice,” he wrote. “I also suffer, but I remain firm. Traveling around Brazil carrying the cloak that my father gave me, spending days away from home, my wife, my daughters, without being able to pray or kiss them before bed, suffering death threats and, even, I remain focused on the mission”.
In the text, he said it is natural for people with the same goals to see different paths. “This happens in families, in companies and also in public life.”
The senator also said that all his decisions have the support of his father and asked to focus on the campaign to defeat (PT) in the presidential contest.
He stated that he called Senator Damares Alves (Republicanos-DF) on Tuesday (23) and asked for the organization of a meeting with conservative female leaders so that he “could learn and listen to them” as part of the elaboration of his plan as a pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic.
According to the senator, he wrote to Damares and suggested that Michelle be invited. He warned that he was “with an open heart”.
This Wednesday, according to Flávio, the call went directly to the former first lady, to make the invitation.
“I made another unrequited gesture. He didn’t answer. I left a message. He didn’t return either.”
The senator stated that he was surprised by the two videos released by Michelle and said that the invitation to the women’s meeting was maintained.
In the videos, the former first lady criticizes the PL’s alliance with (PSDB), pre-candidate for governor of Ceará, and talks about her support for senator Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE).
Michelle said that Flávio spoke to her before speaking and did not answer the phone. Afterwards, he returned the call harshly, saying that she should stay out of the party’s decisions and that she didn’t understand anything about politics.
