At the beginning of Wipplingerstrasse is Iko, where fantasy sushi rolls, tantan bowls with beautifully draped mayo garnish and other mochi lookalikes are served in a designed ambience. At the end of Wipplinger is the stock exchange, where Nikkai, a restaurant with Euro-Asian fusion cuisine, moved in last year and is comparatively expensive. What connects the two restaurants: They belong to two young Chinese women from the so-called third generation (third generation is also the name of the GmbH behind Iko, note), who are repeatedly identified in the media as sisters. In reality, Sissy Wu and Yi Ke Liu are “just” best friends. And they have two more restaurants on Wipplingerstrasse alone, and there are now nine throughout Vienna, some with changing business partners. More is being planned.
