Lulistas who attacked ‘outsider’ Tarcísio spare Tebet – 02/02/2026 – Panel

Allies of President Lula (PT) who criticized the fact that (Republicans) ran for governor of São Paulo in 2022, even though he is from Rio, now defend the “outsider” () at the polls for the state in 2026.

Supported by left-wing cadres who aim for Lula’s re-election, the Minister of Planning has been speculated to be in the Senate by the state.

From Mato Grosso do Sul, she would have to transfer her electoral domicile to São Paulo, a movement today defended by leaders close to Lula who four years ago said that Tarcísio could not govern a region with which he had no relationship.

Tebet declared this Friday (30) that for São Paulo or Mato Grosso do Sul. To launch for São Paulo, she will also have to change parties, as the MDB has signaled support for Tarcísio’s re-election.

The minister (Entrepreneurship) invited Tebet to try out for the São Paulo dispute. To CNN, on Thursday (29), he said that the minister “is capable of running for any position”.

The same França, when he was still placing himself as a pre-candidate for the state government in 2022, was one of the biggest critics of the fact that Tarcísio was a “foreigner” and joked that he would start the debates by asking about him, only to hear him admit to being a Flemish fan.

Today Minister of Finance, (PT) faced Tarcísio in the second round of that election and, like other candidates, also his opponent.

“Do you know what the children are eating at school? It’s juice and biscuits – or cookies, as you call them in Rio de Janeiro,” he said during the debate on TV Bandeirantes, the first between the two in the second round.

Haddad, like Tebet, is tipped for government or the Senate on Lula’s ticket. The president’s preference, and that of part of the PT leadership, is for the minister to be a candidate for governor again. Haddad, however, has said that he does not want to contest elections this year.

If she is a candidate for São Paulo, Tebet will begin a new path after having built her political career in Mato Grosso do Sul: she was state deputy (2003-2004), mayor of Três Lagoas (2005-2010), vice-governor (2011 to 2014) and senator (2015 and 2023). Furthermore, she is the daughter of a traditional member of Mato Grosso do Sul politics, the former governor and also former senator Ramez Tebet.

Tarcísio, on the other hand, despite being born in Rio de Janeiro, was a career civil servant in positions seen as technical, with no direct relationship with his state of origin, before being promoted to government minister (2019-2022).

To transfer the voter registration card, the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) requires a minimum residence of three months in the new home. Tarcísio had registered his electoral domicile, in the interior of São Paulo, claiming an emotional bond with the city.

During the campaign, he approached an interviewer who asked him where his polling place was. The episode became ammunition in the hands of opponents.

Tebet also says she has an emotional bond with the state: she owns properties on the coast of São Paulo and two of her daughters live in the capital.
