Images of emaciated, starving polar bears and predictions that the species could disappear from many places by the end of the 21st century have made the animals icons for the dramatic consequences of climate change. But the picture seems to be a little more nuanced: the polar bears on Spitsbergen are currently doing great – which could of course change quickly.
