The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is planning a trip to Ukraine on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion. With this step, the EU wants to once again demonstrate its unity and support for the country.
The President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, will visit Ukraine this month on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the Russian war. This was announced by EC spokeswoman Paula Pinhová on Tuesday, TASR informs based on a report by the AFP agency.
According to the spokeswoman, this is another clear signal of the European Union’s solidarity with Ukraine and confirmation of the Union’s unity and determination to face ongoing Russian aggression.
A reminder of the Russian invasion
Von der Leyen has already visited Ukraine several times since the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022. Last year, on the anniversary of the beginning of the war, she arrived together with the College of European Commissioners and the President of the European Council, António Costa.
The head of the EC announced on Monday that Brussels will present the 20th package of sanctions against Russia in the near future. It should be adopted by the end of February and also includes a ban on the import of copper and certain platinum metals (platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, ruthenium, osmium) from Russia.
