Police search X offices in France; Musk is subpoenaed

French police and Europol searched the offices of the social network X, this Tuesday (3), and summoned businessman and CEO Elon Musk to testify, the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office reported.

In addition to Musk, authorities also subpoenaed Linda Yaccarinom, the company’s former CEO, to appear at a hearing on April 20, where both are expected to be questioned about suspected abuse of algorithms and the creation of tools that enable deepfakes, such as the use of Grok Artificial Intelligence.

In July, Musk had already denied the accusations and labeled the French operation “a politically motivated criminal investigation”.

In a message published on the X network, the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the ongoing investigations and informed that it was abandoning the profile on the platform. “The Paris Prosecutor’s Office’s cybercrime unit is carrying out searches at X’s French facilities, with the National Cybersecurity Unit and the European Union Agency for Police Cooperation, as part of the investigation opened in January 2025. The Paris Prosecutor’s Office is leaving X”, says an excerpt.

The investigation carried out by the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office investigates the platform’s alleged “complicity” in the dissemination of pornographic images of minors, sexually explicit deepfakes, denial of crimes against humanity and manipulation in data processing.
