The German Federal Criminal Office warns of the threat of violent attacks on Hungarian authorities in connection with the trial of a member of the far-left Antifa movement. Security measures have been tightened.
The German Federal Criminal Office (BKA) warns of the threat of attacks by left-wing extremists on Hungarian embassies in Germany. It is related to the expected verdict on Wednesday in the case of German citizen Maja T., who is associated with the far-left Antifa movement and is facing indictment for participating in a series of brutal attacks in Budapest during the Day of Honor in February 2023. Referring to the infostart.hu server, the TASR correspondent in Budapest informs about this.
The German weekly Junge Freiheit reported on the secret report of the BKA, saying that after the verdict in the trial of the members of the extremist group “Hammerbande” there is a risk of escalation of violence. Hammerbande is a militant cell within the Antifa movement.
The threat of attacks is growing
Hungarian prosecutors are seeking 24 years in prison for the defendant, Maja T., after rejecting a plea deal of 14 years.
German security forces monitor the activities of left-wing extremists who organize demonstrations in Germany and other European countries in support of the defendant. Tighter security measures apply in the vicinity of Hungarian embassies in Germany.
International attention
The case also attracted international attention in connection with the recent designation of the “Hammerbande” group as a terrorist organization by the United States.
