The president’s administration has announced that it will reduce by 700 the number of federal agents deployed in her state. This was made known by the head of the border and envoy to the region by the president of the , Tom Homan, at a press conference on Wednesday.
Federal government and county cooperation
That decision, he explained, is the result of increased cooperation between local jails and federal officials.
“This frees up more agents to arrest or deport criminal aliens, more agents taking criminal aliens into custody directly from prisons means fewer agents on the streets for enforcement operations,” Homan said.
It is worth noting that Homan did not say which county sheriffs have agreed to this increased cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
The reduction of 700 agents is part of a total presence of about 3,000 federal agents who had been deployed to the region as part of broader enforcement operations. Despite the reduction, many agents will continue to remain in Minnesota.
