STJ minister accused of sexual harassment is hospitalized with chest pain

O minister Marco Aurélio Buzzifrom the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), is admitted to a hospital in Brasília, after experiencing chest pains. He presented a medical certificate this Thursday (5), stating that he will be away from court for at least 10 days due to health issues.

According to the medical report, Buzzi was admitted to the DF Star hospital with symptoms of palpitations and chest pain. The medical team decided to admit him to investigate and control his symptoms.

This removal occurs one day after the STJ initiated an investigation to investigate an accusation of sexual harassment against the minister, made by an 18-year-old girl, which Buzzi vehemently denies.

The young woman, daughter of close friends of the minister, alleges that Buzzi tried to grab her during a swim in the sea last month, while they were on vacation in Balneário Camboriú, on the coast of Santa Catarina, together with her parents.

The complaint was formalized through a police report, and the case is being investigated by the National Justice Inspectorate, which examines the possible administrative consequences. The criminal part of the investigation is being led by Minister Nunes Marques, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), since Buzzi, as a member of the STJ, has a privileged forum in the Supreme Court.

In a press release released on Wednesday (4), Buzzi expressed surprise at the disclosure of the complaint. “I was surprised by the insinuations published by a website, which do not match reality. I vehemently repudiate any allegation that an improper act has been committed”, stated the minister.

Lawyer Daniel Bialski, who represents the young woman, stated that he awaits rigorous investigation of the case. “As a lawyer for the victim and his family, we inform you that, at this moment, the most important thing is to preserve their integrity, given the seriousness of the accusation. We hope that the investigation will be conducted seriously and that the case will have an appropriate outcome before the competent authorities”, declared the lawyer.
