PL decides to launch Carlos to the Senate in SC – 02/05/2026 – Politics

He defined that he will launch the former councilor in Santa Catarina and informed the federal deputy, supported by the former first lady, that she will not have a place on the ticket.

With this, De Toni must join the , which has already committed to launching her for the Senate. The change of party should be agreed in the next few days. The deputy informed the PL about her departure.

The president of Novo, Eduardo Ribeiro, reinforced the invitation for De Toni to join the party and stated that, according to the party, her candidacy “is non-negotiable”.

“Brazil needs senators with independence, technical preparation and courage to fulfill the constitutional role of the Senate, and Carol meets all these conditions”, he stated, in a statement.

Novo will launch names such as the deputy (RS) and the former deputy (PR) in the dispute for the Upper House.

The definition of the Bolsonarist ticket in Santa Catarina split the right-wing camp and exposed the divergence between Carlos and Michelle. The disagreement was made clear again this Wednesday (4), with a post by the former first lady on social media declaring support for De Toni.

Michelle published a photo with the deputy and the caption “we will be with you, Caroline de Toni”. The impasse has already resulted.

According to PL parliamentarians, the party defined the ticket in Santa Catarina this week, with the governor (PL) running for re-election and the candidates for the Senate — Carlos and senator Esperidião Amin (PP-SC).

De Toni was left without a party to run for the Senate and has no interest in seeking re-election in the Chamber through the PL.

Members of the PL claim that the relationship between Michelle and Bolsonaro’s children, which is marked by conflicts, is quite bad — allies of (PL-RJ), for example, say that of the senator. In this context, the publication in favor of De Toni was read as an affront to Carlos.

Those who live with the former first lady, however, minimize the split and say that even Carlos and Jorginho continue to treat De Toni as an ally. These interlocutors state that there is no problem with Michelle campaigning for the congresswoman, as Bolsonaro candidates must maintain mutual support even in different parties.

Jorginho had already announced that his candidate for vice-governor will be the mayor of Joinville, Adriano Silva, who is from the Novo party. Party members claim that it will still be possible to launch De Toni into the Senate in an isolated candidacy, unrelated to the government coalition, in an arrangement that was authorized by the Electoral Court in 2022.

Allies of Esperidião Amin claim that he will run for the Senate regardless of the agreement between the parties, but that his preference is to join the PL ticket.

The deputy’s allies are optimistic about her election in the Senate, pointing out that her vote in the state is significant and that Carlos has suffered rejection even among right-wing voters in Santa Catarina.

Bolsonaro’s youngest son, Jair Renan (PL), also decided to pursue a political career in Santa Catarina, state. In 2024, he ran for councilor in Balneário Camboriú and was elected with the highest number of votes in the local Legislature.

Until now, Jorginho had been defending the possibility of a pure PL ticket, with Carol and Carlos candidates for the Senate. But the alliance with Esperidião Amin is considered strategic by the PL.

In 2022, Jorginho ran alone for the Executive, but over the course of his three years in office he expanded his support base and started to draw up a ticket for 2026 with at least PP and MDB, acronyms that are now part of the first level of the state administration.

The governor’s opponent in the Bolsonarist camp is the mayor of Chapecó, João Rodrigues (PSD), who launched a pre-candidacy for the government and could have the support of Amin, if the senator were passed over by the PL.
