Thirty-six appear to have been poisoned in Britain by contaminated milk powder, and Danone, due to contamination with the toxin cereulide.
None of the infants, who had vomiting and diarrhoea, were reported to be in a serious condition, according to information from the BBC.
The UK Health Safety Authority (UKHSA) has not been able to definitively confirm that the infants were poisoned, but it has been confirmed that they consumed the specific brands of baby formula that have been affected. The UK is not the only country affected.
Which milks were contaminated?
The Danone lot affected by the recall is the 800 gram package with EXP code 31-10-2026.
As far as Nestle is concerned, the recall concerns several products, including SMA infant formula. Affected lots are listed on the company’s website.
Cereulide is a toxin that is unlikely to be destroyed by cooking or in the preparation of infant formula. Its consumption can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps, which appear quickly.
