Iran y USA This Friday they begin their long-awaited and incredibly tense first nuclear negotiations since June of last year, when the two countries, after several rounds of meetings, broke the negotiating table due to the start of the 12-day war between the Islamic Republic e Israelinitiated by surprise by the Hebrew State.
This Friday’s negotiations, however, go much further: during the last few weeks, USA has amassed a good part of its naval fleet off the coast of Iran, and threatens military intervention against Tehran if an agreement is not reached.
The Iranian regime lives in isolation both internationally and nationally, with the risk of developing another enormous wave of protest like at the beginning of Januaryrepressed and massacred by the Islamic Republic, whose forces killed nearly 10,000 of its own citizens in a few days, according to NGO counts.
“Iran enters the diplomacy with his eyes open and with a clear memory of the past. We enter at good faith negotiations and we are firm. Mutual respect and respect for each other’s interests are not just rhetoric; are fundamental pillars of an agreement that lasts”, declared, just before the negotiations, the Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchiwho leads the Persian delegation. The American delegation is led by the chief negotiator of Donald Trump, Steven Witkoffand by the son-in-law of the American president, Jared Kushner.
Leave the country
Expectations, however, are very low: the Iranian Government has insisted – to the anger of other regional countries such as Türkiye, Egypt and Qatarkey in the mediation in recent days between Washington and Tehran – that the talks be only nuclear and only with the Americans; and that they are also indirect. While the talks last, Araghchi does not plan to meet Witkoff and Kushner in person, but will be the Omani Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, who acts as a messenger between rooms.
The US has complained in recent days that such a format will make it difficult to reach any favorable resolution. Iran, furthermore, has completely refused to discuss its ballistic missilesand his support for various regional militias, such as Hezbollah in it Lebanon y Hamas in Gazaamong others.
Faced with the enormous risk of a failure of the talks and, therefore, of an attack against the Islamic Republic, the American virtual embassy in Iran – the US does not have an embassy in the Islamic Republic – has asked all its citizens to leave the country as soon as possible or lock themselves in “safe places” immediately. Iran has threatened in recent weeks that a US intervention would lead to war not only between the two countries, but throughout Near East.
