British police have executed warrants as part of an investigation into possible abuse of public office, they announced on Friday, following reports about the behavior of former Great Britain captain Peter Mandelson in the US.
According to the police, searches were carried out at two addresses, one in the Wiltshire area in the south of England and another in the Camden area of London.
Authorities have clarified that no arrests have been made in the case, while the person being investigated is 72 years old.
Pressure on Starmer from the scandal
The development comes as pressure mounts on Sir Keir Starmer to sack his most senior adviser in the wake of the Peter Mandelson scandal and his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. Labor MPs also issued fresh calls on Friday for the prime minister to remove his chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney.
MPs blame McSweeney for appointing Lord Mandelson as US ambassador despite the latter’s links to pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
