Another arrest warrant was issued for ex-president Evo Morales for the 2015 scandal

It concerns a case of sexual abuse and human trafficking.

The Bolivian prosecutor’s office issued an arrest warrant for former president Evo Morales on Monday. It concerns a case of sexual abuse and human trafficking, which allegedly happened during his tenure in the years 2006 – 2019. It was announced by the local prosecutor’s office, TASR reports based on reports from the AFP and AP agencies.

Morales allegedly had a relationship with a 15-year-old girl

Documents submitted to the court show that Morales had a relationship with a then 15-year-old girl in 2015, with whom he fathered a daughter in 2016.

Prosecutors say the parents themselves provided their minor daughter to Morales in exchange for various favors. In addition to the Bolivian ex-president, the victim’s mother is also charged with the “serious crime of human trafficking”.

Initially, the investigation focused on allegations of rape, but the prosecutor’s office expanded it to include alleged human trafficking.

This is the second warrant issued for Morales in the same case. The prosecutor’s office also ordered his arrest in September of this year, but his lawyers successfully appealed against him.

The scandal broke out before the presidential elections, which will be held in Bolivia next year. Morales accuses his successor, Luis Arce, and a former ally, of trying to eliminate him from the race for the presidency.
