Head of Venezuela’s Legislative Branch anticipates approval of amnesty law for Tuesday

Venezuela’s Parliament approved on Thursday (6), in the first discussion, an amnesty law

A Venezuela will approve next Tuesday a general amnesty law that is being debated in Parliament, the head of the Legislative Branch announced this Friday (6) during a visit to family members of political prisoners in a detention center in Caracas.

“We already approved the law yesterday, then, on Tuesday, we need to have a second discussion and it will be definitively approved; once this law is approved, that same day everyone will leave,” said the head of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, during the meeting with the families, broadcast on the state channel VTV.

A amnesty is promoted by interim president Delcy Rodríguezwho took power after the capture of Nicolás Maduro on January 3, in a US military operation.

O Parliament approved on Thursday (6), in the first discussion, an amnesty lawthe second in the Chavismo era.

“We will repair all the mistakes that have been made”, promised Jorge Rodríguez, brother of the interim president, as he was surrounded by family members of political prisoners.

Representative Nicolás Maduro Guerra, son of deposed former president Nicolás Maduro, met earlier with rectors of the country’s most important universities to discuss the Amnesty law project.

He said that there is a “national consensus” on the need to move forward with amnesty to “advance in forgiveness”.

“We, who made mistakes, apologize, apologize, repair the damage that may have been caused and move forward, move forward in a process that guarantees reconciliation, reunion between all Venezuelans and peace in the country,” said Maduro Guerra.
