Painting an apartment is one of the jobs that most people associate with mess, fatigue, and not as perfect a result as was originally expected. All you have to do is follow the correct procedure and the whole process can be surprisingly quick and calm. And the result looks like a professional.
A freshly painted room can change the atmosphere of a home in a single day. And maybe that’s why we often start painting by ourselves in a moment of enthusiasm. But this sometimes gives way to frustration when unwanted spots, smudges or uneven coating appear. The biggest mistake is underestimating preparationwhich at the same time decides how much time and nerves the work will cost you in the end.
Each of us sometimes starts renovating an apartment, and often we start by painting. But do you know which colors are the most trendy in 2026? Watch the video and breathe new life into your home:
The preparation that decides everything
Before you open the first one, you need to prepare the room a little. Covering the floor and furniture with a protective film will save you hours of subsequent cleaning. It is equally important to remove the covers of sockets and switches and to pay attention to the walls themselves: small nail holes must be lightly sanded after drying.
The walls should be clean and degreased before painting. Dust or grease can cause the paint to not adhere well and create unsightly maps. So what about them? Simply wipe them with a damp cloth and let them dry. If you are painting over a dark color or a glossy surface, it is also worth using a penetrating paint which can reduce the number of layers of paint and significantly speed up work.
The choice of shade also plays a big role. Colors behave differently in different light, so it is ideal to try a larger sample directly on the wall and watch it during the day and in the evening. What looks good in the store may look completely different at home.
A technique that saves time
A simple rule applies to painting itself: first the brush, then the roller. It is better to paint the edges around the ceiling, corners and moldings with a brush, and only then it is the turn of the roller to paint large areas.
Apply the color in a criss-cross motion in the shape of the letter W and only then blend it. This will successfully avoid visible roller marks. Do not let the roller soak up all the paintrather apply it in small amounts in several strokes. The result will be smoother and fully unified.
Painting without stress
If you need to jump back or take a short break while working, you do not necessarily need to wash the roller or the brush. Just wrap them in a plastic bag so that the paint does not dry on them. It is equally important to remove the painter’s tape before the paint dries completely: the edges will then remain sharp and clean. Therefore, if you take on painting systematically, instead of being tired, you will be able to look forward to the good feeling of a job well done.
