The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated, in a new publication on the Truth Social network, that the American elections are “rigged, stolen and a laughing stock around the world”. With that, Trump asked Republican parliamentarians to support changes to the electoral system.
In the post, Trump defended the approval of a proposal he called the “Save America Act”, with three central points: the requirement for all voters to present an identification document; proof of American citizenship when registering to vote; and a ban on voting by mail, with exceptions only in cases of illness, disability, military service or travel. “Either we fix this, or we will no longer have a country,” the president wrote.
The statement comes after the negative repercussions of the publication of a video with conspiracy theories about allegations of fraud in the 2020 elections in the country. The video shows former US President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama in monkey bodies.
