Legendary actress Catherine O’Hara († 71) died as a result of a blood clot in the lungs, the portal found out. The cause of death was published by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. Pulmonary embolism is listed as the immediate cause of the actress’s death, while the accompanying (underlying) cause was diagnosed with rectal cancer.
The Canadian-American actress was the winner of the TV Emmy Award and also starred in the horror comedy Beetlejuice and the comedy series Studio. O’Hara began her comedy career in the 1970s when she helped create the Canadian sketch show SCTV. She got her first major role on the big screen in the 1980s in Nothing Personal with Donald Sutherland. In 1985, she appeared in the comedy After Hours directed by Martin Scorsese.
The Slovak audience remembers her mainly as the mother of Kevin McCallister in the films Home Alone. “I’m always drawn to characters who have no idea what impression they make on other people. We’re all really crazy, and that’s what I love about us people.” she stated in 2021 for The Guardian.
