Military police carried out an operation this Tuesday (17) in the community of Rocinha, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), to serve 34 arrest warrants.
Among the targets, there are fugitive criminals from states such as Ceará and Goiás, according to the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ), which is also participating in the work.
According to the Rio government, more than 400 military police officers are taking part in the action, including agents from the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE), the Dog Action Battalion and the Airmobile Group (GAM). Agents also carry out nine search and seizure warrants.
During the operation, a man identified as Vitor dos Santos Lima was killed, according to lawyer Alberico Montenegro.
Montenegro defended Vitor in a case about an association for drug trafficking, which began in 2017. He claims that his client was killed this Tuesday, without offering any resistance to the police approach, as he learned from witnesses at the scene.
Asked about Vitor’s death and the use of body cameras, the Military Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Claudia Moraes, informed that she does not yet have information about these complaints and that, as soon as she receives them, she will speak out.
