The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), stated this Tuesday (10), that an application to the Presidency of the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), “is increasingly distant”.

He also said that his party still does not have a definition of who it will support in the presidential race.

“I see that this scenario is increasingly distant. I think that Tarcísio is already signaling and announcing that his project should be for re-election in São Paulo […]and senator Flávio (Bolsonaro) consolidating himself as a PL candidate”, he declared in a virtual participation in the BTG Pactual bank conference, held in São Paulo.

O and that the center parties are observing the movements.

“Everything is undefined. The signals also from President Lula that he wants to dialogue with the center parties make this game a little more confusing. The party presidents will wait a little for these center parties to be able to define themselves”, he said.

Motta also stated that he will wait for a greater definition of the scenarios to take a position in the presidential election, with the aim of not contaminating the progress of work in the Chamber.

“This is not the time for me to make this decision, so that I can be able to carry out the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies in the election year with balance and responsibility,” he declared.

Regarding the elections for Congress, Motta said he believes that the tendency is for the 40% re-election rate to be maintained, in addition to a strengthening of the right and left, due to the polarized environment.

“We must maintain this number [40%] in the forecast for the renewal of seats, with a tendency to strengthen both the left and the right poles”, he said.

For him, there will be a reduction in the so-called “runtish parties”by tightening the performance clause.

“We must find it increasingly difficult for smaller parties to comply with this clause. So this naturally generates a migration of parliamentarians to the parties that will be able to survive, and Brazil is heading, in my point of view, towards a reduction in the number of parties represented in Congress”, he added.
