The Organized Crime CPI canceled the hearing it would hold with the governors of Pernambuco, Raquel Lyra (PSD), and Rio, Cláudio Castro (PL), this Tuesday (10) and Wednesday (11), respectively, due to the semi-presential regime in the Senate.
The sessions of this commission and the INSS CPI will only be held again in two weeks, after carnival.
Lyra would be accompanied by her state security team to present an overview of organized crime in Brazil. “The contribution of these authorities and technicians is vital to the preparation of this Commission’s final report”, states the rapporteur, Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE).
Opportunity with security!
When contacted, the governor’s team did not respond to the report about the statement.
The Organized Crime CPI begins 2026 with four consecutive session cancellations. Last week, Castro and the governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), canceled their presence.
Castro claimed international agenda for missing. Ibaneis, on the other hand, decided to nominate the secretary of public security, Sandro Avelar, to speak in his place. Avelar also ended up missing. In the end, number 2 in the department, Alexandre Patury, attended the collegiate.

Therefore, the president of the CPI, Fabiano Contarato (PT-ES), said he will summon Ibaneis to testify to the commission.
The summons makes the presence of a deponent at the CPI mandatory, under penalty of a crime of responsibility, subject to the opening of a request for impeachment.
