China reacts to Musk and makes rocket “reverse” in test towards the Moon

The most recent test of the Chinese space program ended with an unusual maneuver: after separation in flight, parts of the Long March-10 rocket and the Mengzhou spacecraft capsule returned to the sea in previously determined areas.

The operation, described by authorities as successful, was interpreted as another step by Beijing in the technological dispute for the Moon.

According to the state agency Xinhua, the demonstration flight took place at the Wenchang Space Center, in Hainan province. The China National Space Administration reported that the system was subjected to a test under conditions of maximum dynamic pressure, simulating an emergency situation. The ship received command to perform the separation and carried out the escape procedure as planned.

China reacts to Musk and makes rocket “reverse” in test towards the Moon

The rocket’s first stage and return capsule touched down separately, within the predicted maritime zones, validating recovery protocols. The CNSA highlighted that the test involved new models of launcher, spacecraft and launch platform.

The announcement comes days after Elon Musk stated that he will leave the mission to Mars on the back burner to focus his efforts on building a lunar base in the United States. China maintains the goal of sending astronauts to the Moon before 2030, using Long March-10 and Mengzhou for future manned missions.

With both countries adjusting priorities, the Moon returns to the center of global space strategy, with practical tests and public statements acting as signs of strength in the dispute for technological protagonism.
