After the change in rapporteurship in the Master case at the STF (Supreme Federal Court), the national president of Solidariedade, deputy Paulinho da Força (SP), defended this Friday (13) the actions of the minister Toffoli Days. He criticized what he called the “moral lynching of public authorities”.
According to the parliamentarian, the magistrate has always been respected for his “balance and firmness” in his public work. In a note, Paulinho highlighted the almost twenty years of “relevant services provided in the Brazilian judiciary” by Toffoli.
“It cannot be accepted that corporations and a portion of the media promote the moral lynching of public authorities based on pre-judgments and selective leaks of information. Institutional responsibility requires all of us – political leaders – and society to be careful in defending democracy and its institutions”, said the deputy.
On Thursday (12), Toffoli’s departure from the Master’s case was agreed after a meeting between all members of the Court. He was replaced in the role by the minister André Mendonçadefined by draw.
Toffoli was the target of extensive pressure on the rapporteur since the beginning of the investigation into financial fraud. In addition to the minister’s suspicion and distancing from Master, opposition parliamentarians also expressed support for a request for the magistrate’s impeachment.
On Wednesday (11), the PF (Federal Police) identified messages from the owner of the Master, Daniel Vorcarowith mentions of Toffoli. The businessman is being investigated for billion-dollar financial fraud. The matter weighed on the ministers deciding to change the rapporteur.
Solidariedade’s note does not directly mention the actions of the PF, but mentions the “moral trashing” of authorities by “corporations” based on “pre-judgments and selective leaks of information elements”.
